Sr. Evelyn Marchand, OP

Born into eternal life: 29 Nov 2014

Sr. Evelyn (Marie) Marchand, OP, died in Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, KY, at 90 years of age after a lengthy illness. Until two weeks prior to her death, she never ceased smiling and warmly greeting everyone as "Cheré." That was her way, learned following her birth into the large Cajun family of Nelson and Mary Eunice (Gaudin) Marchand in Gonzales, Louisiana.

Sr. Ruth Elsner, OP

Born into eternal life: 24 Nov 2014

Sr. Ruth Elsner, OP entered eternal life on November 24, 2014 at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon, Kentucky, in the 61st year of her religious life. Her Funeral Service was held on December 4, 2014 at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel and burial followed at the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.

Sr. Mary Michael Spangler, OP

Sr. Mary Michael Spangler, OP, died Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Mohun Health Care Center (Columbus, OH). She was born in Woodsfield, OH, in 1924, and in 1944 entered the former Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Sr. Mary Michael ministered in the field of Catholic education and taught in the primary grades in Marietta, Columbus, Steubenville and Zanesville, OH. After earning her PhD from the University of Notre Dame she taught in the Education Department at Ohio Dominican University for 44 years.

Sr. Rita Agnes Masse, OP

Born into eternal life: 16 Nov 2014

Dominican Sister of Peace Rita Agnes Masse, OP (93), died Sunday November 16, 2014, at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH. She was born February 16, 1921, in Zanesville, OH, to Frank and Julia Ann McCabe Masse. She was a teacher in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and Ohio where she taught in Marietta, Steubenville, Lancaster and Columbus at Bishop Watterson High School. She served as the Archivist at the Columbus Chancery Office and was a Myers-Briggs presenter throughout the United States. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Sr.

Sr. Nancy McAward, OP

Born into eternal life: 14 Nov 2014

Dominican Sister of Peace Nancy McAward, OP (82), died Friday, November 14, 2014, at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH. She was born August 1, 1932, in Flushing, NY, to the late Patrick J. and Lucy Aupenanager McAward. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Quinn and brother, Patrick J. McAward. She is survived by her sisters, Frances Costello and Mary Patricia Bell.

Sr. Nancy was a teacher in elementary and secondary schools in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Ohio, and served as Postulant Director in the former St. Mary of the Springs Congregation.

Sr. Patricia Martinez, OP

Born into eternal life: 14 Nov 2014

Dominican Sister of Peace Patricia Martinez, OP (89), died Friday, November 14, 2014, at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas.

Born May 13, 1925, in Little River, KS, as Pasquala Martinez, Sr. Patricia was the daughter of the late Gregorio and Placida Gomez Martinez. She entered the Dominican Sisters Community in Great Bend October 10, 1943, and pronounced her first vows August 13, 1946. She celebrated 65 years of religious profession in 2011.

Sr. Paulette Boll, OP

Born into eternal life: 8 Nov 2014

Sr. Paulette Boll, OP, died on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the age of 88 at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH. Sr. Paulette was the daughter of George and Amelia Boll. One of 11 children, Sr. Paulette was born in Pedro, OH in 1926 and entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in 1951.

Sr. Mary Peter Brumter, OP

Sr. Mary Peter Brumter, OP, died on Monday, October 6, 2014, at the age of 88 at the Akron Motherhouse Wellness Center (Akron, OH). Sr. Peter was the middle child of Urban and Mary Mickley Brumter's seven children. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron, now Dominican Sisters of Peace, from St. Mary Church (Wooster, OH) on September 8, 1943, and made religious profession on August 26, 1945.

Sr. Rosemary Murphy, OP

Born into eternal life: 16 Sep 2014

Rosemary Murphy was born May 2, 1918 to Marion and Joseph Murphy in Waterford, NY, the only girl among four brothers. Her family was active in St. Mary’s Parish staffed by the Augustinians but there was no Catholic school or religious sisters in the area. She remembers skipping religious education classes and using the money for ice cream instead! Later on in Cuba she made sure her religion classes were engaging and involved the students in discussions, and they voted her the best religion teacher they ever had.

Sister Irene Euman, O.P. (85), Dominican Sister of Peace for 64 years, died August 28, 2014, at Mohun Hall Health Care Center, Columbus, OH.
