In the summer of 2011, Dominican Sisters of Peace adopted Centro Santa Catalina, a faith-based community in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, as a new initiative of the congregation. The Center was founded in 1996 by the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan, and is currently directed by Dominican Sister of Peace Rene Weeks, OP.
Since its foundation, Centro Santa Catalina has grown into a humble center for women and their families and for the development of faith-based community. The Center offers a variety of programs including those focused on women's spiritual growth and development, popular education, and educational activities for youth ages 3-12; the Center also provides participants opportunities to become involved in an economic cooperative. All projects and programs are planned, developed, instituted, and evaluated by the women involved.
