COLUMBUS, OH - On October 18-19 the Dominican Sisters of Peace Leadership Team met at Ohio Dominican University with the leaders and board chairs of our three colleges and four K-12 schools. The purpose of the meeting was to reflect on the role as leaders of an education institution sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Thursday evening after dinner, Prioress Sr. Margaret Ormond, OP, addressed the group and challenged these leaders to consider their responsibilities in light of our Mission to Preach, Build, and Be Peace through our lives and work.
Friday morning the featured presenters, Dr. Julia McNamara, President of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, and Dr. Cynthia Thomas, President of St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, spoke of the ways the mission is lived out on their campuses. The small group table discussions encouraged everyone to share ideas and perspectives.
The afternoon concluded with an inspiring session by the Vocation Team - Srs. Pat Twohill, OP; Cathy Arnold, OP; and Pat Dual, OP. With a lively multimedia presentation the point made was that the future of the congregation as well as new Sisters working in their institutions will be enhanced as today's young women are encourged to think about entering religious life. The seeds of a religious vocation are potentially fostered in the fertile ground of our education institutions.
