Six of our Associates and 25 of our Sisters gathered in Wheeling, IL, with an estimated 600 Dominican Sisters and Associates representing 21 Dominican congregations from the USA as well as Canada, Rome, and Australia, for the first Dominican Sisters Conference Convocation (October 4-7) engaging the theme "Edgewalkers: Unfolding the Fertile Unknown."
It was exciting and exhilarating to be a part of such a vibrant celebration of our oneness as Dominicans, and to experience the richness of our shared wisdom, while searching together for ways we can be firmly centered and anchored in God and our faith tradition, so we can freely "dance" to the edges where those marginalized by society or church await the living Gospel of Jesus. (Click here to read a summary of the event by Associate Marybeth Irvine, OPA; you are invited to ask any of the attendees to share with you about some of the "sound bites" she lists.)
Associate Conni Dubick, OPA, who served on the planning committee for this event invited all attending Associates to a "getting to know you" breakfast on Friday morning, where each shared about themselves and their ministries and were encouraged to meet each other throughout these days together and share a "word" that expresses them or their life.
The Directors of Associates also met for a short breakfast meeting on Saturday morning to exchange ideas and information before hurrying off to the Convocations Meetings.
We were especially proud of our Associate Anita Davidson, OPA, whose preaching at Saturday morning's prayer was engaging, entertaining, and inspiring as she spoke eloquently of wisdom and pulled together many of the themes from speakers the previous day (click here to read Anita's preaching).
