Voices needed to Protect the Clean Air Act

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Senator James Inhofe is currently sponsoring S.J. Res 37, using an obscure Congressional Review Act to block the EPA's new emission standards for hazardous mercury and other toxic air pollution. According to the Environmental Defense Fund, this would prohibit the EPA from creating similar clean air standards in the future. For more than 20 years, these important standards have been in place.

It is estimated that these invaluable air standards provide the following protection:
- They will prevent up to 11,000 premature deaths every year.
- They will protect children from dangerous exposure in toxic mercury pollution, which can cause brain damage in infants and young children.
- They will save the U.S. economy tens of billions of dollars in avoided health costs every year while putting up to 117,000 Americans to work installing pollution
control technologies between now and 2015.

Please considering writing to your senator and asking him/her to defect this dangerous, anti quality of life bill. Click here for a sample letter.
