Kansas Day Celebration in Great Bend

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

GREAT BEND, KS - Kansas Day is celebrated on January 29 when Kansas became a state in 1861. Sisters at the Motherhouse in Great Bend held their traditional Kansas Day party. Refreshments were Kansas Mud (a delicious chocolate and vanilla dessert topped with gummy worms, cowpie cookies, and of course some punch). One of the games was finding on a crossword puzzle the cities in Kansas noted for births of famous citizens, museums with special attractionss, special foods, etc. Topping the fun was a game played by Sisters and employees - a blindfold Pin-The-City-On-the-Map-of-Kansas. Players won a quarter if their sunflower was closest to the spot on the map they were asked to find!
