NEW ORLEANS, LA - "Often when people think of New Orleans, they think of Mardi Gras or Carnival," said St. Mary's Dominican High School President Dr. Cynthia Thomas. Located in the heart of New Orleans, St. Mary's Dominican is no stranger to this celebration.

ST. CATHARINE, KY - The Sansbury Care Center Board of Directors, with the affirmation of the Dominican Sisters of Peace Leadership Team, has named James V. Melia, LNHA, as the new administrator of Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine Kentucky, effective March 1, 2013.

Mr. Melia comes to Sansbury with a licensure in Long-term Care Administration, an MA in health care administration, and a BS in Business Administration.

In addition to his educational background, Mr. Melia also has an impressive history of work experience and five management awards. His references detail his strong analytical skills, extensive knowledge in healthcare operations, including excellent financial management and regulatory oversight, as well as staff and business development.

Dominican Sister of Peace Susan Leslie, OP, has been elected as the Confederacion de Dominicas de America Latina y El Caribe (CODALC) Animator for the Bolivariano countries for a period of three years. Those countries include Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, and Venezuela. During the recent assembly, attendees had the opportunity to spend two days with Barbara Reid, OP (Grand Rapids), who spoke with the group using the 2012 theme of "Go and Tell My Brothers and Sisters." She focused on Mary the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalen as prophets and preachers. She also included a number of other biblical women such as Ana, Elizabeth, etc. Sr. Susan commented, "She was fabulous! And I might add, very well received." The assembly also gave whole-hearted support to continuing the project in Los Cacaos, Haiti.

NEW ORLEANS, LA - In an effort to raise awareness of human trafficking, especially at large sporting events like the Super Bowl, which will be held in New Orleans on February 3, Dominican Sister of Peace Nadine Buchanan, OP, joined Toshia Kimbler and Theresa Flores (founder of SOAP) to pass out soaps to local hotels and guest houses. SOAP (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) is an organization that works to educate the community and raise awareness about prostitution and human trafficking.
