LOUISVILLE, KY - Eight Dominican Sisters of Peace attended a workshop entitled "Leadership for Sustainable Religious Lands: Tilling a Future of Hope" at the Ursuline Campus in Louisville, KY. The workshop was organized by Dominican Sister of Peace Claire McGowan, OP, and explored the topic of the opportunities open to religious communities who own land. We spent a very energizing morning with  presentations by Mary Berry of the Berry Institute and Christy Brown of the Louisville Festival of Faiths and a theological reflection on our ownership and use of our land. The afternoon was led by Joy Anderson and a team of volunteers from the Criterion Institute who introduced us to a financial imagination to pair with our theological imagination for stewarding the land. All of us left energized and challenged by the workshop. The Sisters who attended included Srs.

WATERFORD, MI - Lourdes Nursing Home has been named one of the nation's best care facilities by US News & World Report, it was announced Tuesday by the national magazine.

The data determining the honor for the 108-bed facility comes from Nursing Home Compare, a website operated by the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The agency sets and enforces standards for nursing homes enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid. CMS also collects information from states and individual homes and assigns each home a rating of one to five stars in each of three categories: State-conducted health inspections; nursing and physical therapy staffing, and quality of medical care. Lourdes Nursing Home received five stars, the highest rating.

COLUMBUS, OH - The Dominican Sisters of Peace Dining Services Team in Columbus, Ohio, has partnered with the Sisters to help support The Well, the Salvation Army's day-time drop center for women who have been sexually exploited and trafficked in Central Ohio. The goal of The Well is to provide these women a peaceful sanctuary and a place they can call their own. One of the best ways to create a home-like environment and develop community is to eat together. Chef Andy Harker (pictured left) cooked a delicious lunch for the women while some of the Sisters helped put together boxes of nutritious snacks. Morrison Senior Living donated all of the food and supplies for the event, which left all involved with a huge sense of love and peace.

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University (ODU) will welcome hundreds of high school students to its campus as it hosts the National Honor Society (NHS) Ohio Conference from 8am to 3pm, March 8, in Alumni Hall and the Bishop James A. Griffin Student Center, located on ODU's main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road, Columbus, 43219. The event is co-sponsored by the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Approximately 375 students and advisors from at least 15 high schools from across the state are expected to attend the conference, which will offer sessions on the college admission process, leadership, community service, fundraising activities, stress management, and team-building.
