COLUMBUS, OH - On February 15, Dominican Sister of Peace Gemma Doll, OP, joined Ohio Medicaid Director John McCarthy, Legislative Liaison Angela Weaver, Sr. Mary Wendeln, CPPS, Rev. Susan Bryan, Sr. Carren Herring, RSM, and Sequoia Powers in a discussion on Medicaid expansion. The mentioned representatives of the faith community met with McCarthy to strategize how to maintain Medicaid expansion in Ohio's new budget. Governor Kasich and his cabinet are not in favor of "Obamacare," but it is the law of the land and poorer Ohioans can benefit from additional access to healthcare. According to McCarthy, it is the moral thing to do. Access helps these lower-positioned workers and childless parents to seek routine preventative care to stay healthy and keep their jobs, which contributes to the overall productivity of the State.
