Our Story
“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those who announce peace and bring good news.” (Isaiah 52:7))

Christ Jesus announced peace in his Easter greeting to his disciples and by his radiant wounds.  Not even death could prevent his transformation of hatred into reconciliation.

Dominicans have been preaching truth, mercy, justice, and peace throughout the world for more than 800 years.  Their words and deeds foster Paschal Peace.

Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, the Dominican Sisters of Peace were established: 650 Sisters in close collaboration with 500 Dominican Associates of Peace united to proclaim with one voice the peace of Christ!

Seven congregations of Dominican women religious based in Oxford MI, Columbus and Akron OH, St. Catharine KY, Great Bend KS, and New Orleans LA, spent four years thoughtfully considering the combination of all our resources. We voted in spring 2007 to found a new congregation so that we might preach with a new fire, live with a new spirit, and call others to join us in praising God’s name.

We believe the Spirit of the Risen Christ named and commissioned us.  As we contemplated more than 100 possible names, “Dominican Sisters of Peace” was not at the very top of the list.  However, during Summer Assemblies in 2008 that name caught hold with passion and peace.  What better signs of the mission we were given!
