Our Lady of Peace Honors Sisters
On October 11, 2009, Dominican Sisters of Peace Carla Golom, OP, and Joan Monica McGuire, OP, attended the 90th Anniversary of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Chicago, in honor of the St. Catharine Dominicans, who staffed the elementary school from 1924 to 1973.

Sr. Elaine DesRosiers’ Oil Painting Awarded Honor
Sr. Elaine DesRosiers (St. Catharine, KY) was the recipient of a merit award for the oil painting she created during the “A Brush with Bardstown” competition, October 1-3, 2010. At this annual event, artists paint in and around the Historic District in Bardstown, Kentucky, choosing their subject matter from the surroundings and allowing passersby to see them in action creating their pieces. Sr. Elaine was one of 36 artists participating at this year’s event. Principal juror Mary Bryan Hood, founder and long-time director of the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, chose Sr. Elaine’s for the merit award in the non-professional division.

This year, Crown Point Ecology Center is celebrating its 20th anniversary. In grateful appreciation, Sr. Patricia Marie Sigler (Akron, OH), founding visionary, was honored at the Center’s annual Taste of Earth dinner and auction on August 21. The Executive Offices of Summit County proclaimed August 22 as “Sr. Patricia Marie Sigler, OP Day,” thanks to her dedication to protect and preserve the Earth by modeling principles of ecology and demonstrating organic farming and agricultural sustainability. Further, Ohio Representative Betty Sutton recognized Sr. Patricia Marie for her dedication and generosity to the less-fortunate in the community. Our Lady of the Elms will also celebrate a special “Sr. Patricia Marie Sigler Day” on August 26.

New Prioress and Council Installed
On August 8, the Feast of St. Dominic, the new Leadership Team of the Dominican Sisters of Peace was installed, including Prioress Sr. Margaret Ormond and Councilors Srs. Joan Scanlon, Gene Poore, Therese Leckert, and Gemma Doll. While the ceremony took place in Columbus, participants the world over were able to watch and celebrate via webcast.

Founded last week on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, the Dominican Sisters of Peace have completed their first General Chapter (canonical meeting for decision-making in religious congregations).

New Congregation Founded
On Easter Sunday 2009, the Dominican Sisters of Peace was officially founded as a new congregation, a pontifical institute formed through the union of seven former congregations of Dominican Sisters. The occasion was celebrated with a festive Founding Event in St. Louis on April 14, with satellite celebrations held at the congregation’s motherhouses in other areas of the country.
